Step-by-Step Application Process

1

Apply for E-Visa

Visit the official Tanzania Immigration e-Visa portal. Fill out the application, upload documents, and pay the fee online well before your trip.

2

Travel to Tanzania

Fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), or Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) in Zanzibar.

3

Immigration Clearance

Present your printed E-Visa Grant Notice (or apply for the Visa on Arrival and pay the fee) to the immigration officer.

Required Documents

  • Valid Spanish Passport (must be valid for at least 6 months, with at least one blank page)
  • Printed E-Visa Grant Notice
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Yellow Fever Certificate (Mandatory if arriving from an endemic area, highly recommended otherwise)

Important Tips

  • The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). US Dollars (printed after 2006) are widely accepted for tours and larger purchases.
  • Zanzibar requires all visitors to purchase mandatory inbound travel insurance specifically through the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC).
  • Plastic bags are strictly banned in Tanzania; do not pack them in your luggage or carry them into the country.
  • Safari Etiquette: Listen to your guide, do not feed or disturb the wildlife, and pack neutral-colored clothing.
  • Tipping is customary for safari guides, drivers, and lodge staff. Bring small US Dollar bills for this purpose.

Easiest Way to Get It

Secure your E-Visa online before departure to avoid long queues, fly directly into Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar, and ensure you have the required Yellow Fever certificate.

Visa rules can change. Always verify with the official embassy.

Discover Tanzania

Tanzania is East Africa's premier destination for wildlife and adventure, offering a quintessential African experience. From the vast, lion-roamed plains of the Serengeti and the volcanic majesty of Mount Kilimanjaro—Africa's highest peak—to the crystal-clear turquoise waters and spice-scented alleys of Zanzibar, it is a land of staggering natural diversity. Whether witnessing the Great Migration, exploring the prehistoric Ngorongoro Crater, or relaxing on pristine Indian Ocean beaches, Tanzania provides a profound connection to nature and a culture rooted in warmth and 'Hakuna Matata' spirit.

Dar es Salaam
The bustling commercial port city on the Indian Ocean, known for its vibrant mix of African, Arabic, and Indian influences and its strategic gateway to the southern safari circuit.
Arusha
The safari capital of northern Tanzania, located at the base of Mount Meru and the starting point for trips to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Kilimanjaro.

Safety & Scams
Generally safe for travelers; exercise standard caution in large cities like Dar es Salaam (avoid displaying wealth); malaria is prevalent—malaria prophylaxis is essential; use only filtered or bottled water; follow park regulations strictly when on safari.
Getting Around
Domestic flights (Air Tanzania, Precision Air) connect major hubs and islands; 'Dala-dalas' (minibuses) are common for short city trips; for safaris, 4WD vehicles with experienced guides are standard and recommended; ferries connect Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
Cultural Etiquette
Greetings are very important—always say 'Jambo'; dress modestly, especially in Zanzibar; ask permission before taking photos of people; avoid public displays of affection.
Internet & Connectivity
Digital connectivity is good in major cities and Zanzibar; 4G/5G is available via Vodacom and Airtel; major lodges and hotels provide Wi-Fi, but connectivity in remote safari camps can be limited.
